Couples therapy
For couples who keep missing each other, in conflict or in silence.
You know this
conversation.
One of you pushes for a response. The other goes quiet. You explain, defend, withdraw—and end up further apart.
Or perhaps the arguments have stopped, but so has the closeness. We look at what keeps happening between you and what each of you wants to change.
You may still care deeply about each other and find it difficult to talk.
You may be facing a change that has affected you differently.
Or you may be unsure about the future of your relationship.
Sounds familiar?
Conversations that repeatedly turn into conflict or end without either of you feeling heard.
Distance, resentment or a loss of intimacy.
A breach of trust and questions about what can happen next.
Different needs for closeness, independence or support.
Changes in work, family or where you live that have shifted the balance between you.
Uncertainty about continuing the relationship.
You may understand the difficulty differently. We begin by making room to hear what brings each of you.
HOW I WORK WITH YOU
Warmth.
Honesty.
Responsibility.
I take an active part in our conversations. I’ll help you slow things down, name patterns and address behaviour that damages trust.
We pay attention to whose needs get heard, who makes decisions and how responsibility is shared. I work with each of you to recognise your impact and what is yours to change.
There is room to understand how you learned to protect yourself, and to be honest about what those ways of coping cost your relationship now.
Working through the frictions.
-
Notice the pattern.
We work with the moments you know well: the criticism, the defensiveness, the silence. What happens just before things turn? What do you each do next? Seeing the pattern clearly gives us something specific to work with.
-
Understand its history.
We explore what you learned about closeness, conflict and depending on others. Earlier experiences can help us understand why a moment feels so charged—and recognise when an old response is taking over a present conversation.
-
Practise another way.
Asking clearly for what you need. Listening when something is hard to hear. Setting a boundary, acknowledging hurt and making a repair. We practise with the conversations you actually need to have, so the work can continue beyond the session.
Beginning together.
In our first session, we hear what brings each of you, what you hope for, and what you need to know about working with me. We discuss whether couples therapy is a suitable setting and agree on how to proceed.
What if we’re unsure about staying together?
You can bring that uncertainty. We can explore what each of you wants, what feels possible, and what you need to understand before deciding on a next step.
Let’s see if we align.
You don’t need to have it all worked out.
We can start with a free 15-minute phone call to talk about what brings you and get a feel
for working together.
Hi, I’m Andrea, the human behind Aligned.
I work with individuals and couples navigating relationship difficulties, questions of identity and belonging, and changes that have unsettled the life they know. Our work makes room for your relationship with yourself, your body and the people around you. You can bring what feels difficult, contradictory or not yet clear.
My approach is relational and body-oriented. Alongside conversation, we pay attention to what you notice in your body. My background in literature, art, writing and yoga shapes how I listen.
Alongside psychotherapy, I offer coaching for questions about work, leadership and direction. We begin with what brings you here.
